my most choice musings.

climateadaptation:

Bjarke Ingels is by far the most innovative architect in the world. I’m being subtle when I say that his ideas for sustainable architecture are absolutely dazzling, not because they’re “ideas” but because his projects are being built.

I’m staying in Copenhagen right now, right near the The Mountain apartments and the Figure 8 condos, which he introduces in the beginning of the talk. Both buildings are magnificent spectacles (though, to be honest, I think they’re slightly out of place).

In this video Ingels walks through a few projects. The crown jewel comes in at around the 10 minute mark. I can’t even describe the project but assure you it will blow your mind.

this is really really cool!

“sustainability can’t be some kind of a moral sacrifice or political dilemma or even a philanthropical cause-it has to be a design challenge…we tried to ask ourselves if there was another sustainability…we tried to ask ourselves if we could find examples where there sustainable buildings and cities could actually increase life quality.”

i think the power plant design is really wonderful—they put a ski slope on top, and the runoff waters plants growing across the facade of the building. the idea of rotating each apartment in the 8 house and new york project so that each unit receives optimum views and sunlight is so brilliant to me! it’s one of those things where you wonder how this hasn’t been done all along.

really interesting and uplifting!
